Monkey 47 Sloe Gin
Monkey 47 Sloe Gin is a very fruity gin with a nice red-gilt color. The first scent impression testifies to an aromatic and complex gin with notes of sloe and juniper. After a lifetime in India, a Royal Air Force pilot moved to the great German capital, Berlin. Here he was to help with the reconstruction of the Berlin zoo after The Second World War.
One day the soldier met a monkey named Max. The soldier and the monkey quickly became good friends. When the soldier had finished rebuilding the zoo, he moved to a large, dark, and eerie forest in southern Germany called the Black Forest.
The now-retired soldier loved making gin, and all around the vast, dark forest, he found a lot of strange ingredients. Along with many Indian ingredients, he used it to make the most wonderful gin, called ‘Max the Monkey – Black Forest Dry Gin’.
During the renovation of an old hotel owned by the soldier, whose real name was Montgomery Collins, a small box was found in which there was a bottle of gin and the recipe for Collins’ gin. In 2008, the recipe was purchased by The Black Forest distillers, and they created what we now know as Monkey 47 – with a whopping 47 different ingredients. Try it out with one of our great Cuban or New World Cigars.
